True Depressions are so few and far between that there’s a natural, and hence forgivable, tendency to regard them as identical and so fall back upon the strategies of yesteryear in the face of the current year’s calamities. Chicken stealing provides a handy case in point.

In the Depression of yore, rich folks had chickens, and so stealing from them who had too much to maintain them who had too little had a kernel of virtue… not to mention a lovable rustic charm made yet more charming by the hazy glow of memory. Ah… chicken stealing… now them were the days.

Today, though, folks with chickens are as likely to be kind permaculturists just trying to get by in harmony with the Earth. While the theft my appear superficially the same, the essence of the act is quite different… or is, at least, likely to be quite different.

Sister Please

Finally wrote this week to N concerning the mess that is the contract we never quite signed. Having gotten that off my chest, suddenly I am able to work again on the recording… though I’m no closer to understanding how to mix drums, or much else. On the upside, it’s great fun to work out horn arrangements in Logic. Finally added the missing arrangement to Sister Please. I’ve found that by mixing samples - using multiple instrument sounds, rather than simply more trumpets - I can get a more realistic ensemble sound.

on strict observence of the Constitutional method for going to war, there would be no “Bush’s War.” the very existence of such a thing is, though tragic on a massive scale, only a symptom of a deeper, institutional, problem.

John Kerry and Hillary Clinton were wrong when they said they thought a President ought to have such power, and the framers of the Constitution were right when they said a President most emphatically ought not.
